Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (1)

Posted on May 8, 2023May 11, 2023

For Darkest Dungeon II players who are collecting achievements, this is a comprehensive guide detailing a way of getting for all achievements in the game.

Work in progress:work on this guide is still ongoing. Maybe now it looks like just a list of achievements, but it will not be so for long. Very soon, I will update each achievement with a detailed description and a screenshot or video explaining how to unlock it.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (2)

Achievement Info

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (3)

Abandon hope, ye who enter here cause after all, only pain and bitterness of loss and defeat awaits you ahead. And even the smallest beacon of light will not save you from the darkness that has filled the world like mud. And no hope will save you from the nightmare that your soul will know while you get 65 achievements in the sequel to the famous roguelike — Darkest Dungeon II.

Live. Die. Repeat.

If you have never heard of the Darkest Dungeon, then you should know that your defeats, constant need, death of heroes and other failures are the very essence of the game. You are not brave heroes here who overcome evil with one hand. You are ragamuffins who are trying to survive or at least not go crazy in a world full of agony. In the first stages, you will constantly lose battles, valuable items, heroes, and despite this, you will need to try again and again. Each new run or expedition will advance you little by little or be your end.

Great heroes can be found even here, in the mud and rain.

Heroes are an important part of the gameplay. Hire and pick them right, improve them, take care of their physical and psychological state, open memories, start relationships to achieve success, but at the same time also expose them to illness, injury, stress and other negative effects. In general, do everything so that the life of your heroes does not seem like paradise, and then you can unlock a large number of achievements.

Continue the onslaught! Destroy. Them. All.

Kill enemies and bosses in different locations, do not spare anyone and you will be rewarded. A significant part of the list is made up of various achievements that require you to kill certain enemies or dungeon bosses. Some will unlock over time as you try again, and some will require you to meet certain conditions in order to achieve it, but in any case, remember that killing almost everything in this game is rewarded in full.

Spoiler Free Zone

I usually write a separate paragraph in my guides that the game has story achievements, the description of which may contain spoilers, but apparently not for this game. The fact is that descriptions of achievements can hardly reveal at least any plot points of the game.
In addition, the very concept of the game is based on the fact that each attempt will be random and unique for each player.

The only thing that can become a spoiler here is the backstory of the characters, which you will learn as you open the memories, but I’m not sure if this is something important and should be hidden from your eyes. Feel free to play and use this guide without fear of learning something you shouldn’t know about this game.

The Flagellant is a unique hero, who can be can be considered a support and DPS hero. He thrives on taking punishment and is at his best when also at his worst. His attacks and skill tend to harm himself in the process while dealing damage to enemies or even healing the rest of his party.

When the Flagellant is on Death’s Door, he can gain various buffs but this is basically a dice roll since he’s at critical HP.Lash’s Gift restores some of the Flagellant’s HP while buffing a party member’s strength and defenses. The Deathless skill can restore a party member’s HP at the cost of the Flagellant’s HP.

To unlock Boudica the Hellion, you need to spend the candles accumulated during the previous run in the Altar of Hope. Go to the Living City tab and you will see a list of all the characters.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (12)

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (13)

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (14)

The Hellion’s primary role a front-line damage dealer with large bursts of damage, but not much damage in-between. Her ability to gain extra damage pairs well with her secondary tank role, which often causes her to drop to lower HP since she doesn’t gain any defensive tokens like block dodge.

She counteracts this by having a multitude of self-heals, both for HP and stress. Her bleeds suffer somewhat from this, since they don’t scale as well as her direct damage moves with her low-health damage buff active.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (15) Barbaric rage and unrelenting savagery make for a powerful ally.

Funny Guy

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (16)

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (17)

The Jester is a particularly mobile Hero, as most offensive skills of his skillset require him to change position around the team composition to unleash his full potential. Due to his rather erratic movements, the Jester may present risk when fit into a team who requires Rank consistency or lacks flexibility in movement.

Notably, the Jester excels at applying Combo, possessing 4 skills that can inflict said Token in total, more than any other Heroes. Due to his highly flexible skillset with a good target reach, the Jester can reliably perform on any Rank, especially on middle Ranks. Jester has a more supporting role on Rank 3 where he can effectively Stress heal, buff his team or Pull targets, while on Rank 2 he can use Finale to deal a strong blow on resilient targets.

Long Live the King

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (19)

To unlock Baldwin The Leper, you need to spend the candles accumulated during the previous run in the Altar of Hope. Go to the Living City tab and you will see a list of all the characters.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (20)

Find The Leper on the list and spend 8 candles to unlock it. After that, with the start of a new run, you can pick him to your squad.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (21)

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (22)

The leper is a durable front-rank heroe capable of dealing huge amounts of damage. While also being able to receive large amounts damage and stress for the team, protecting his allies. The main problem the player will see is Blind tokens. Fortunately Leper has the tools to combat this as Reflection allows you to clear Blind. Leper main damage abilities are able to ignoreBlind if you have Combo, this makes heroes like Jester, Occultist , Man-at-Arms and Runaway good allies for Leper as they can apply combo easily.

The Leper’s biggest downside is that he’s restricted to the front two ranks. He has no way of attack from the back, and he has no ability that moves him forward, forcing him to move one rank at a time with his regular movement. This means enemies like Pit Fighter or The Lord are a big threat to Leper since these enemies can push him back with strong Knockback abilites.

Vestal is both a support and a damage dealer, having great flexibility regarding her skills and ranks.

However, Vestal’s low speed and big cooldowns on her skills along with her unique Conviction Token make it crucial to plan and choose well which skills to use in combat as Conviction is able to make skills much more powerful (Consuming these tokens in the process).

When You Want Something Done Right

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (31)

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (32)

The Bounty Hunter differs from other Heroes in Darkest Dungeon II. Once unlocked from The Altar of Hope the Bounty Hunter can only be hired at The Inn when his hire poster is shown. Hiring the Bounty Hunter will cost the player 4 Candles of Hope. When hired the Bounty Hunter will replace a Hero of choice from the players party (unless there is only one hero left in the party, in which case he will accompany that hero) and will remain with the expedition until the following Inn. When the player arrives at the next Inn the Bounty Hunter will leave and the original Hero will return. When hired the Bounty Hunter will start with one random positive and negative quirk as well as one random trinket.

The Bounty Hunter has no Hero Paths, but does have a passive called “Professional” instead. This passive allows him a 50% chance to reapply combo when using an ability that consumes the combo token.

Don’t Make Me Turn This Coach Around

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (34)

Your characters are constantly under psychological pressure: failures, defeats, deadly challenges, death of comrades, lack of supplies, fear of enemies. All of this affects your hero’s stress meter, which is displayed as a white bar under your heroes’ health.

As soon as your character experiences enough stress for the first time and the white bar under his health is full to 10 points, he will pass a resistance check.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (35)

If the check fails, your character will experience Meltdown. This will reset his HP to an extremely low state and make your hero ineffective. In this case, the stress bar will reset to zero again.

When activated, you can choose one of your characters to be given one memory.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (40)

Just select any of your heroes in order to unlock his memory cell. Sometimes this leads to the narrator’s comments about the character, and sometimes it opens up a small mini-game in which you have to come out victorious by reaching certain goals.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (42)

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (43)

If you have previously visited the Shrine of Reflection and unlocked your hero’s memory at least once, then the memory cells are saved, regardless of whether your character died or not, and also whether your expedition was successfully completed.

In order to get this achievement, it is enough to have a hero in your party with all 5 memory cells unlocked, and then lose him in battle.

FNG

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (46)

You will first need to unlock the Bounty Hunter at the Altar of Hope because this achievement is related directly to him. As I described above the Bounty Hunter can only be hired at The Inn when his hire poster is shown.

The Bounty Hunter can only be hired once per run and cannot be hired at the Inn prior to The Mountain (unless the current confession is Denial, in which case it is possible for him to appear in the last Inn). If the player does not hire the Bounty Hunter at an Inn his poster can possibly appear again at the next Inn (excluding the final Inn, unless as stated before the current confession is Denial).

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (48)

Creatures for this achievement can be found in the Creature Den. This location node consists of a 2 wave battle against a variety of animal enemies. Clearing the Den will reward the player with an assortment of inn items and combat items as well as one Animal Part item. These are a type of unique currency that need to be delivered to the inn in exchange for powerful effects.

Creature Dens have different chances to appear on the map depending on the current region.

  • Creature Dens will not appear naturally in The Sprawl
  • Creature Dens will always appear naturally in The Foetor and The Tangle
  • Creature Dens can appear naturally in The Shroud and The Sluice, but it is not guaranteed

Carrion Devourer (Worm)

The Carrion Devourer is the fully matured form of the Carrion Eater. It is larger, stronger and tougher to beat in every sense of the word. Biting is still it’s favored way of attacking it’s pray, using it’s fully formed mouth muscles to dig it’s sharp teeth into it’s victim’s flesh, causing noticeable Bleeding, and infecting them with blighting disease.

Carrion Eater (Worm)

As the name suggests, this creature has managed to sustain itself on whatever scraps and carcasses it could find. However they are by no means harmless. While not as strong as their fully matured counterpart, the Carrion Devourer, the Carrion Eater will still put up a fight against any possible treat.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (51)

Gander (Elite Dog)

A loyal wardog armored for battle that served alongside the Lost Battalion, the Gander found its way to the Creature Den once its regiment fell victim to the curses of the cult. It shares many similarities with the Rabid Gnasher, likely being part of the same species.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (52)

Rabid Gnasher (Dog)

Men and beasts alike fell victim to the plagues and disasters of the apocalypse. Such was the case too for the poor dogs, wild or domesticated, that are now known as Gnashers. Little more than reanimated corpses, they shamble on, acting on pure instinct and aggression.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (53)

Spitter (Spider)

The Spitter holds a large yellow abdomen, decorated with black stripes and dots. Its exoskeleton is equipped with large spikes on its back, presumably for defense. Spitter’s large legs allow for great mobility and evasive options, and it’s venom is more potent than that of The Webber.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (54)

Webber (Spider)

The Webber is a spider arboring a modest black abdomen, decorated with one large orange strip. The Webber’s legs, while not as large as The Spitter’s, allow for decent mobility and evasive options.

Swine Skulker

The Skulker is a small and frenzied hybrid of swine and vermin. It protects it’s jaw, eyes and torso with assorted pieces of metal armor. Bound to it’s arms with rope are two rusted and filthy blades. It also wears a make-shift scarf fashioned from a torn flag and has multiple piercings on its left ear. Quite a fashionable little creature!

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (57)

Swine Skiver

A hideous mutation of man and beast, the Swine Skiver stands upright on two hooves with a quiver of javelins strapped to his back. The Skiver cripples his prey with a hail of javelins or by pinning them down with a well placed spear.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (58)

Swine Brute

The Brute is a burly hybrid of man and swine, standing tall over his fellow Swine-folk. He wields a meat tenderizer fashioned from rock and bone. His lower body is clad with a belt made of tusks; his left arm is protected by (likely ill-gotten) shields. His overgrown tusks extend well beyond his upper jaw, acting as a means of attack and defense.

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (59)

Wilbur

Wilbur has grown quite a bit since his last run-in with the Heroes in the Warrens near the Hamlet. Like his Brutish counterparts, Wilbur is an overgrown hybrid of man and beast. Unlike the Brutes, Wilbur wears a headband, the same he wore back when he was near the Hamlet, when he was still a little piglet-thing.

Players that encountered Wilbur in the first game will be familiar with Wilbur’s strategy in the 2nd game. Wilbur will typically spawn with two Skulkers that will command Wilbur to attack a specific target. With his giant meat-tenderizer, Wilbur crushes his target with a devastating swing that is guaranteed to deal critical damage. Without the direction from the Skulkers, Wilbur will stun, stress, and swing wildly at the heroes. Try to take out the Skulkers before they mark one of your heroes for death!

Dissector

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (60)

When the otherwordly corruption spread from the Mountain, the last strength of humanity stood against it in the woods of the Tangle in a desperate attempt to stop it. But their faith and steel was pointless against the horrors that swallowed their sanity, leaving behind nothing but human husks, aimlessly wandering in the battlefield. The final blessing of death has been denied to them, instead they remain in the world, trapped in an endless nightmare and filled with regrets of failure.

The very last remains of their humanity still linger in them, remembering their military formation and tactics in order to slain every creature traversing the woods. Despite their cadaveric appearance, they can still stand up when facing death, or even return from the dead with the power of faith. Slaying these poor souls is an act of mercy.

Arbalest

Armed with heavy crossbows, the arbalists of the lost battalion were skilled marksmen tasked with providing ranged support to their comrades. Even though their bodies and minds have been stolen by the forest, their skills are still almost as sharp as their bolts.

The Arbalist serves as fierce, ranged back-line for The Lost Battalion. It can cause great damage to a single target with its crossbow or shoot large sharp arrow causing bleed to all heroes. If cornered on the front line Arbalist will fire an weak Hip shot trying to defend themself while returning to the back positions.

Death is a dangerous Mini-boss that can appear after any encounter when you have the Flagellant in your party. Her appearance is that of a lady dressed fully in white and marked with holes across her face. The horse she rides on shares a similar design. She wield a scythe that appears to have a somewhat crow-like design. She seems to be bound to her steed, her dress and legs fusing with the horse.

Intent on bringing death to the Flagellant, Death can also decide to kill some of your other party members as well. She also spawns with two indestructible, untargetable Gravestones that can interfer with your ability to deal damage.

Killing her can reward Mastery points and a unique trinket (possibly multiple trinkets, more info needed).

Since this is a surprise attack, it’s a hard battle to prepare for. Death will attack your party to retrieve the soul of the Flagellant, as he’s been toeing the line between life and the afterlife for far too long.

Upon spawning, she’ll receive several buffs, debuff the Flagellant’s deathblow resistance with Momento Mori, and start pummeling into your party.

Momento Mori stuns and inflicts 1 Horror on your Flagellant, rendering him useless for the initial round unless his stun is canceled. Death also spawns two gravestones that are untargetable, taking up the space around her.

Death has the ability to attack twice in a turn, utilizing her main attacks to mark and inflict Horror on your party. Her follow-up inflicts stress and bleed. She’ll move around the gravestones, making it difficult for heroes like the Leper to damage her when she’s in the backline.

While Death may seem like an impossible opponent, she has a pretty substantial weakness to Burn DoT, with only 20 resistance to it. If you’re lucky enough to have Burn Combat Items or the Runaway in your party, you’ll have a much easier time bringing her health down.

If we don’t have Burn available, Blight will work with her resistance at 30. Use your Flagellant’s Punish as much as you can.

Bleed will be tough to get going as she has a high resistance to it, making those skills less of a priority if you have higher-damage ones.

You’ll want to keep stress down, utilizing any sort of skill you may have, including the Flagellant’s Endure. If you have the Jester in your party, use Inspiring Tune every time it’s available to get rid of as much stress and Horror as possible. The hardest part of this battle is keeping your party from having constant meltdowns.

Once you have Death on its own doorstep, keep attacking her nonstop. She has 75 Deathblow resistance, so it’ll take multiple attacks before you can finally finish her off.

The Altar of Hope is the first place traveled to after The Crossroads in Darkest Dungeon II and is the first location in The Valley. If the player has any Candles of Hope they will be forced to stop at the Altar and spend them. If the player has no candles they will not be able to interact with the Altar.

You will return to this place every time after your run is over. The more you manage to achieve, the more candles you will have to unlock in the Altar of Hope.

The Altar is used as the games main meta-progression location. Within the Altar are multiple locations, such as The Timeless Wood, where the player can spend their earned Candles of Hope for permanent buffs/upgrades, apply Memories to Heroes, and unlock a variety of items to be added to the loot pool for the current profile.

The player is required to spend all of their available Candles before being allowed to leave the Altar and continue the run. If the Altar is full upgraded the player must add their earned Candles from the prior run into The Pool of Reflection.

Loop Year

Darkest Dungeon II 100% Achievement Guide - SteamAH (127)

The game was released on Steam on May 8, 2023, so to get this achievement, you need to launch the game on that date in any subsequent year. For obvious reasons, this achievement cannot be obtained legally until May 8, 2024.

And while in theory you can unlock this achievement through SAM or by changing the date on your computer, I don’t think that’s the way of the samurai. Well, if you unlock all 64 of the 65 achievements in fair way, then find the strength in yourself to unlock this one in fair way too.

Both of these achievements will be unlocked as you progress through the other achievements, there is no exact counter in the game for the total number of leagues you have traveled, however, in the lower right corner, as you travel, you are told the approximate distance to the inn in leagues.
